Toledo junior Barend Botha has received First-Team All-Mid-American Conference honors for the 2022-23 men’s golf season, the league office announced on Friday.

Botha has been named First-Team All-MAC in each of his three seasons as a Rocket and is only the fourth player in school history to garner first-team all-league recognition on three occasions, joining Ted Ossoff (1973, ’74, ’75), Brad Heaven (2001, ’02, ’03, ’04), and Chris Selfridge (2013, ’14, ’15) . In addition, UToledo has had a first-team honoree for the fourth-straight season under Head Coach Jeff Roope.

A native of George, South Africa, Botha became the third Rocket to receive MAC Golfer of the Year honors earlier this week. He has posted a school-record 70.5 stroke average this season and will be competing as the No. 1 seed among individuals at the NCAA Bath Regional hosted by Michigan State University on May 15-17.

Botha also became the seventh Rocket to win a MAC Championships title this week with a five-under par 211. He birdied the final hole to finish one stroke ahead of Miami’s Danny Fisher. Botha has registered 22 rounds of par or better this season and notched a sixth-place showing or better in six of 11 tournaments. He also tied a school record with a 12-under par 204 en route to winning the first tournament of his collegiate career at UNCW’s Seahawk Intercollegiate on March 26-27.
